cat 5 extender

Frequently a cat 5 extender is called a fly lead, bur really these aren’t a true cat 5 extender.  A cat 5 extender needs an RJ45 plug on one end and a socket on the other.  They are used to extend your structured cabling outlet to a more usable position – BUT please do beware of Health and Safety issues when using any cat 5 extender or power extension.

Sometimes you’d be better off having a CAT5 splitter in place of a cat 5 extender.  It may well be that there are sockets near to where you want additional phones or computers – but they are all occupied.  The CAT5-splitter allows you to put up multiple phone calls through a single CAT 5 cable while still utilising it for a PC.
