global voip

Skype was the first global voip solution.  As most people know this global voip communications offering sometimes was great, but most of the time it wasn’t.

Why is that?  Well, global voip relies on telephone signals being transmitted from source, across a series of connections to the destination, in REAL TIME.  The returning speech needs to do the same.  As you’ll appreciate when you browse the web some pages take a few seconds to appear.  That’s due to traffic congestion and one packet of data getting there faster than another – analogous to roads and motorways at rush hour!  So voice has to be prioritised over the ordinary visual information packets.

This is called Quality of Service (QOS).  It’s what you get in local area networks but not just yet in global voip.

In the UK everyone is working towards the Twenty-First-Century-Network giving us SIP Trunks.  When that has been achieved (probably by 2012) then we may be able to enjoy global voip a little more.  But again it depends on other countries having the same technology.

When global voip is a reality we’ll all benefit.  Until then if you want a good VoIP system, call TelephoneSystemsDirect on 0800 652 8052.
