internet telecom

The boom in internet telecom has brought about a higher usage of broadband technologies in businesses.  They’re employing internet telecom technology to link their own sites together reducing PSTN telephone charges to zero.  They are even using internet telecom to have extensions off the head office PABX in workers or director’s homes so that they can work at home while still appearing to be at their desk.

There are many pure-IP telephony systems in business premises now and the move in the telecom industry is towards IP trunks.  These are called SIP (Session Internet Protocol) lines.  These are being implemented through BT’s 21CN project to change the main delivery infrastructure from ISDN.  This is great for the domestic market as internet telecom delivers not only voice but multi-media so is ideal for video on demand.

At TelephoneSystemsDirect we are reticent about recommending internet telecom to our customers other than for inter-site and home-working where you can tolerate some poor communications.  When the latest internet telecom developments have matured (just as ISDN2 and ISDN30 had to in the early 1990’s) we’ll be making the recommendations based on the economics of internet telecom versus non- internet telecom rates.  Watch this space!
