lease line

The use of lease line communication is restricted to businesses for obvious reasons.  Each lease line connects two premises together and provides a dedicated comms path for voice and data between the company’s head quarters and its branches.

Back in the mid to late 1900s lease line telephony technology employed signalling systems such as 4-wire E&M, DC5 and various options of AC15 besides others less well known.  In certain instances in the 1980s and 1990s 2 MHz lease line connections allowed PABXs to be linked utilising the DASS2 or DPNSS.

Today the emphasis of lease line usage has moved more to virtual lease line through the internet by the application of voice-over-IP technologies.
