How do noise cancelling headsets work?
There are a number of components required to achieve the noise cancelling effect:
A microphone placed inside the earphone “listens” to external sounds that cannot be blocked passively. The noise cancelling circuitry is fitted discretely in the ear-cup. It senses the input from the mic and generates a “fingerprint” of what it hears, noting the frequency and amplitude of the incoming signal. Then it creates a new waveform that is 180 degrees out of phase with the waves associated with the noise. Merging the two waveforms together utilises “destructive interference†to blot out the unwanted noises leaving the caller’s or user’s speech. Using these constituents, a noise cancelling headset is able to provide about 20 decibels of noise reduction. That means about 70% of ambient noise is effectively suppressed, making the noise cancelling headset ideal for travelling or working in open plan office environments or other locations with a high level of background noise.
That’s 0800 652 8052 for a noise cancelling headset.
