Telecoms

Telecoms is the technology of communicating at a distance.  At least that’s what one dictionary says.

In today’s telecoms world the pace of change seems to be increasing all the time.  Perhaps “Beam me up Scotty” will be all too possible before the twenty-first century is over and done with – who knows.

The author of this “telecoms” article joined Ferranti-GTE in 1982 just after the UK telecoms industry was de-regulated.  Then we had no ISDN; no CTI; and wireless communications.  Now telecoms has all of the above plus DECT, Wi-Fi, GSM, 3G, bluetooth, SIP, integral Voicemail, VoIP, IP-UMS, click and dial out of personal computers (wow – that takes me back to my first IBM PC-XT – God I’m old!)

Our children think nothing of telecoms – it’s always been there – instant access to everyone.

So when I tell you that telecoms has changed my life I know you’ll believe me.

After the Ferranti crash came Securicor Telecoms and saw OKI as the market leader closely followed by Fujitsu.  Neither currently figures strongly in United Kingdom telecoms.  The entry of Samsung gave birth to the DCS succeeded by the iDCS and now the OfficeServ.  The OfficeServ7000 range does everything you could possibly want in the hands of the skilful TelephoneSystemsDirect engineers.
