The term “video over ip” means the transmission of moving picture over a digital network between one IP address and another.

Video over ip became possible with the creation of the MPEG standard in the mid 1990s and the advent of the internet.  At present the UK is undergoing a serious IT infrastructure upgrade, commonly known at BT21CN.  This is British Telecom upgrading all its broadband highways and local loops to provide the whole of the community with high speed ip communications rather than the relatively poor download speeds some of us receive as this article is written.
