voice data cabling
The voice data cabling in your premises will be CW1308, Ethernet, CAT3, or Cat5 in all probability. Many businesses are more than happy to keep their computer data cabling and voice cabling totally separate from each other.
Nowadays it makes more sense to have a structured cabling solution where the cabling is independent to the applications running through it. Thus came CAT5, followed by CAT5e and CAT6 voice data cabling. All the wiring emanates from a single area (the Comms Room) and is distributed throughout the building to service any position that might require some form of communications (voice, data, video, cameras, door-phones, conferencing). At each outlet the voice data cabling is terminated with an RJ45 connector. These can be in quad or double faceplates or floor plates. Each has a unique designation that is duplicated in the central point on an RJ45-patch-panel.
By linking the voice system, hub or switch through a patch-lead the port can be made voice or data. You then plug in a PC or phone at the distant end and you’re working.
Moving people with voice data cabling is a matter of re-patching two patch-leads and plugging their terminals into points close to their new location.
