voice ip
The term “voice ip” describes the technology of Voice Over Internet Protocol or VoIP.
Analogue voice comms were all we knew until the digital age engulfed us in the 1980s. With voice being digitised we were able to transmit many conversations down the same piece of cable whereas previously we could only have one. ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) transformed the way that communications developed through the 80s and 90s.
Then along came the computer industry and IP traffic was born. Merging digitised-voice onto the local area network as voice ip was inevitable.
Ensuring voice ip is successful has required developments of purely data-routers and data-switches due to the fact that while data can be delayed for up to a few seconds, a voice conversation needs to happen instantaneously (i.e. within milliseconds). This resulted in Layer 3 switches and routers with a feature called QOS (Quality-of-Service) that prioritises voice ip packets over the others.
At Telephone Systems Direct we specialise in business communication solutions including traditional TDM as well as the current voice ip technologies.
