voice pbx

A voice pbx is an essential tool of nearly every organisation in the world.  Let’s just enlarge on what “voice pbx” actually means:  Obviously in grammar “voice” is the subject and “pbx” the verb, or doing word!  PBX stands for Private Branch Exchange to distinguish it from a Public-Main-or-Branch-Exchange.

When the telecoms industry was deregulated in the early 1980s the BT monopoly was broken and many manufacturers brought their voice pbx products into the UK.  North American, German and Japanese were first into the marketplace making alliances with European and British companies.

The voice pbx of the day were governed in size by the technologies available at the time.  There was no ISDN, no Wireless communications and no Computer-Telephony-Integration.  Key-systems were introduced as miniature voice pbx to replace the older Plan-1 and Plan-1A key and lamp Boss-Secretary set-ups.

Today’s voice pbx is probably a tenth of the volume it was in the 1980’s and fits in a 19” rack in the IT room.  The voice pbx has a choice of transmission technology: either TDM (Time-Division-Multiplexing) or IP (Internet Protocol) switching.

Telephone System Direct specialises in voice pbx solutions to the United Kingdom market with the OfficeServ7000 series of voip enabled telephony switches.
