What is “vpn voip”?  Virtual Private Network Voice over Internet Protocol.

OK so what does vpn voip mean?  It means creating an enterprise where the communications of a business, even though there might be a number of individual divisions geographically dispersed, appear as one.

So how is vpn voip achieved?  The HQ and each division will have a PABX running the local comms.  The PABXs can be IP or more traditional TDM based with key-phones or POTs for the staff desk.  Those with IP-phones will already use VoIP technology.  The PBXs that are TDM-based can utilise vpn voip to link into the others.  The inter-site communication links may be private circuits (for which you’ll pay heavily) or can be through the World Wide Web as it employs QOS.
